From Advocacy to Action: Coco Guthrie-Papy
What does it take to build communities where justice and opportunity are the rule, not the exception? What are the challenges of social activism, and how can individuals turn passion into meaningful, lasting change? To answer these questions, please join us Thursday, March 19th, at 3:15 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, when Coco Guthrie-Papy will share her experiences as a community organizer, restorative justice practitioner, and public policy advocate.
Coco Guthrie-Papy currently serves as Program Developer at Mary’s Place: Sexual Assault Center of the Coastal Empire, where she supports essential services for survivors and helps build partnerships that strengthen community-based responses to violence. A born-and-chosen Southerner, she began as a volunteer advocate and has supported programs assisting incarcerated individuals, reproductive rights and care access, and public advocacy. As Director of Public Policy and Communications at Deep Center, she focused on criminal and juvenile justice education and served as the organization’s lobbyist at Georgia General Assembly, advancing legislation to reduce punitive policies and invest in the social safety net.
Coco’s work has emphasized relationship-building, civic engagement, and mobilizing communities—especially women—through initiatives like Emergent Savannah and national movements such as the Women’s March.
Please join us for this empowering and thought-provoking discussion. The event is open to all registered Abigails members and their guests.
